Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (removal of the third tonsil or adenoid) are common head and neck surgeries performed by ear, nose, and throat surgeons and pediatric surgeons. These surgeries can be performed separately or at the same time, and in the second case, it is called tonsilloadenoidectomy. Adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy are relatively similar and are usually performed on an outpatient basis. In case of medical problems or surgical complications, a person may be hospitalized overnight.
In general, tonsillectomy and tonsillectomy are performed under general anesthesia, which usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. This surgery is performed at the Imam Khomeini Medical Education Center.
